St. Frances football to face Bingham (Utah) in GEICO State Champions Bowl Series on Dec. 23

The No. 1 St. Frances football team will meet Bingham (Utah) in the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series at Grand Canyon University Stadium in Phoenix, Ariz., on Dec. 23.

The matchups were announced Wednesday for the four-team event which includes top teams from Arizona, Florida, Maryland and Utah. It will be televised live on ESPNU.

The Panthers (12-0), the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference champions and the No. 1 team in Maryland, will play Bingham (13-0), the Utah Class 6A state champion at 6 p.m. ET.

The only two undefeated teams in the Bowl Series, both are ranked in USA Today’s Super 25 with the Panthers at No. 11 this week and the Miners at No. 8.

Bingham, from just outside Salt Lake City, has been in the Bowl Series twice before but has not won a game. St. Frances has been invited for the first time.

The Panthers’ roster includes six players in the ESPN 300 for the senior and junior classes, including No. 4 senior Eyabi Anoma, a defensive end, and No. 40 junior Shane Lee, an inside linebacker. They are the first team from the northeast to participate in the Bowl Series.

The late game, 9:30 p.m. ET, will feature USA Today No. 23 Chandler (Ariz.) (12-2) vs. Miami Northwestern (12-2).
