Baltimore Sun Media Group reporter Matt Owings picks the boys track and field performers who ought to make some noise this season.
Tevin Bailey
Westminster, high jump, senior
After recording a 6-foot-6 leap at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore High School Invitational this winter — which tied the state's highest public school mark of the indoor season — the senior was Class 3A state champion in the event. His 6-4 mark at last year's state outdoor meet earned him a title, as well.
Lawrence Cager
Calvert Hall, field, senior
At a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association meet in December, Cager set an indoor league record in high jump at 6 feet 9. He won a conference title during the indoor season in high jump and is the defending outdoor champion. Cager was also a wide receiver for the Cardinals' football team, and he will play next season at the University of Miami.
David Eisenhauer
Wilde Lake, distance, senior
He had the fastest indoor 3,200-meter mark this past season at 9 minutes, 24.47 seconds. In addition to winning the Class 3A state title in that event, he won the 1,600. Eisenhauer is the defending 3A outdoor 3,200 champion, and finished in the top four in the 800 and 1,600 at last spring's state meet.
Nathan Gill
Manchester Valley, high jump, senior
Gill won the Class 1A indoor state championship for his 6-4 jump and won the Carroll County title. Earlier in the season, he leaped 6-6. He is the defending outdoor 1A high jump champion (6-4).
Jordan Leon
Milford Mill, distance, senior
During his senior indoor season, Leon recorded the fastest 800-meter run in the state at 1:56.14, for which he earned a Class 3A state championship. Leon was also a 3A Central region champion in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 during the indoor season. During his 2014 outdoor season, he finished second in the 800 and 1,600 at the 3A state meet.
Robert Miller
City, sprints-hurdles, junior
Miller is one of Baltimore City's budding athletes. After winning his first indoor state championship in the 55-meter hurdles (7.46), he looks primed to continue that success in the spring. He's won the outdoor 100- and 110-meter hurdles at states in the past. Look for him to be a major player in the 200, and even a few field events, this spring.
Nick Neral
Century, pole vault, senior
The senior's 15-5 jump at the MVAL Piedmont Conference Championship on Jan. 10 made him the highest vaulter in the state, and he later won his second consecutive Class 2A indoor state championship. While Neral has enjoyed plenty of success indoors, he has yet to win an outdoor title. Last year, he finished second with a 15-foot mark, though he recorded a personal-best 15-6 at the outdoor 2A West regional.
Jelani Roberts
Gilman, sprints, senior
Over the past two years, Roberts hasn't lost much of anything. During his senior indoor season, he recorded MIAA championships in the 55- (6.42) and 300- (35.40) meter dashes. He posted a personal record in the 100 (10.94) and 200 (22.87) in the Knights and Lions Invitational last spring.
Michael Singer
McDonogh, distance, senior
Though he ran Maryland's fastest indoor time for the 1,600 (4:19.87) in a group meet earlier in the season, Singer's crowning achievement came two weeks later, when he won the MIAA title. He also finished third in the 800 at the conference championship meet.
Glen Taylor
Atholton, sprints, senior
Beaten only once in the 55-meter dash during the indoor season, he went on to become a Class 3A state champion (6.48). He also helped the Raiders' 4x200 relay team to a fourth-place finish at the 3A East region meet. Taylor, a transfer, suffered an injury that caused him to sit out the majority of his junior season.
