Stanton played a big role in Century (50 points) edging Middletown (49) and New Town (48) for the Class 2A state title this winter.

The multitalented athlete was solid in the high jump, 55-meter dash and the 55 hurdles and jumped on the 800 relay team later in the season to help the Knights score points. Stanton won the state title in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 7 inches.

That came after he took second in the high jump at the Carroll County championships and won the Class 2A West Region title. He also won the 55 and 55 hurdles county championships and took second in the region in both events before getting third in the 55 and fourth in the 55 hurdles in the state.

His athleticism and ability to score points in four events was a big reason Century won the county, region and state meets this winter.

The bad news for Century opponents is that he’s a junior and might get better before graduating next year.
