Save for Jordan Leon, whose outstanding performances all seasonled up to his Class 3A state championship in the 800-meter run, Milford Mill didn't have any individual title winners at the state level.

The team was "tenacious," said coach Sharon Johnson, and its consistency is why the group was a force throughout the winter and captured its first team state title in 18 years.

Johnson coached the Millers to Baltimore County and Class 3A Central region titles before capping the season with the Class 3A state championship. Leon won Milford Mill's lone individual state title, but the Millers scored in six different events, with multiple points winners in the 500 and 800 runs and the championship in the 1,600 relay.

She said she knew her group would be solid by the end of last year's outdoor campaign. It was about putting everything together during the championship season run, she said, and Leon was a big part of that.

"I'm going to definitely go through some withdrawal [when he's gone]," the coach added.
