The UMBC men’s soccer program will get an injection of hometown talent for 2020 with standout juniors Spencer Hanks (Arundel), Dillon Nesteruk (Eastern Tech) and Taylor Calheira (Concordia Prep) all making commitments this past week.

Hanks, an All-Metro first-team selection who plays forward and attacking midfielder, scored 21 goals and added three assists in leading Arundel to the Class 4A East region title game. He was named the Capital Gazette’s Player of the Year in Anne Arundel. A three-year starter and captain, he will enter his senior high school season with 43 goals and 13 assists.

Nesteruk and Calheira are also playing big roles on winning programs. Nesteruk, a midfielder, is a three-year starter at Eastern Tech and contributed to the Mavericks’ first state title during his sophomore season. Calheira, the son of former Blast star Adauto Neto, finished with one goal and one assist as Concordia Prep claimed a 3-0 win over Friends in this past season’s Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association’s B Conference title game.
