Nick Fransham
North Harford, senior
After battling injuries the past few years, the otherwise-solid Fransham had a breakout season for the Hawks.
Fransham won every race but one and capped that with a strong performance in the Class 3A state championship race, edging fellow All-Metro runner David Eisenhauer of Wilde Lake by eight-tenths of a second.
Fransham's time of 15 minutes, 41.3 seconds was the best anyone ran in any of the four classes at the state meet.
That effort came after he won the Class 3A North Region meet and the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference championship. He also captured his division at the Bull Run meet at Hereford during the regular season.
"He's like a workhorse," said Laura O'Leary, the North Harford co-coach with Ryan Bayne. "He's an amazing kid."
