Boys cross country runners to watch

Boogades finished 15th in the Class 4A state meet last year as South River took seventh overall. That came after his victory in the Class 4A East Region meet in a time of 16 minutes, 47.6 seconds.

Nick Deamer

Howard, junior

Deamer's eighth-place finish at the state meet helped the Lions take fourth overall in the tough Class 4A race. Deamer was one of the area's top underclassmen last year and should perform well again this fall.

Dalton Hengst

McDonogh, junior

Hengst truly had a breakout season last fall and emerged as one of the area's top runners. He won the MIAA championship race and later took first in the Maryland/DC Private School title race.

Joey Navarro

Oakland Mills, senior

Navarro's fifth-place finish led the Scorpions to second overall in the Class 2A state meet, just three points behind Liberty. Navarro also took second at the Howard County title meet.

Jacob Parker

River Hill, senior

Last fall, Parker improved strongly throughout the season and should be one of the team's top runners this year. He finished eighth in the state Class 3A title race as River Hill ran away from the field en route to the title.

Rahul Reddy

Reddy finished seventh in the state last fall in the Class 3A championship race as the Hawks crushed second-place Atholton by 76 points. He's the top returning River Hill runner heading into this season.

Daniel Saxon

Liberty, sophomore

Saxon's third-place finish – just under nine seconds behind teammate Nick Tilson – helped the Lions to the Class 2A state title last fall. He ran 16:48.43, the top time for a freshman at the state meet.

Nick Tilson

Liberty, senior

Tilson finished second in the Class 2A state meet last year as the Lions won the team title. He put in a lot of work over the summer and is ready to lead Liberty again.

Alex Whittaker

Mount Saint Joseph, senior

Whittaker helped lead Mount Saint Joseph to its first MIAA cross country title in school history last fall. Whittaker finished sixth overall – the top Gael – as they knocked off defending champion Loyola and won the title by two points.

Lucas Wright

McDonogh, senior

Wright will combine with Hengst to give McDonogh a strong 1-2 punch this season. Wright took third in the MIAA championship race last fall as the Eagles finished third overall in the team standings.
