Hereford's boys were motivated coming into the season, but Drylie and Bowman helped them put it all together as the Bulls swept the Baltimore County, Class 3A North Region and Class 3A state titles.

Hereford got a rare perfect score of 15 in the Baltimore County meet — coming in fired up after losing last year's title because of an odd uniform controversy that gained national attention. That means the Bulls had the first five runners finish the race.

They almost got another perfect score the following week at the region meet (16) and won by 70 points in the Class 3A state title race. The Bulls ran their best at the right times.

Drylie and Bowman work with the boys and girls — who also won the state title — and have done an excellent job of building a program that has plenty of depth. Mason Rivera and Erin Causey won the boys and girls state championships, but the Bulls aren't just a one-person team. That's why they're so good.

"This is just a great group of kids," Bowman said.
