Versatile senior guard Phil Booth closed out a fine four-year varsity career in impressive fashion, leading the No. 2 Gaels (34-5) to a sweep of the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference and Baltimore Catholic League championships.
Signed to play at Villanova, Booth finished the season averaging 19 points, six rebounds and three assists per game.
He was named the BCL Player of the Year and tournament Most Valuable Player, in addition to making the All-MIAA team.
Last season, he earned All-Metro first-team honors and was named the BCL’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Whether it was a key basket, rebound, assist or defensive stop, Booth was often the one to help supply whatever the Gaels needed to win.
“He just had a great overall career, a guy that came in with high expectations and delivered,” Mount St. Joseph coach Pat Clatchey said. Booth ended his career with “team accomplishments and individual accomplishments. He’s a very versatile player who can help a team win in so many ways. He definitely left his stamp on Mount St. Joe basketball.”
Booth closed out his senior season with a career-high 37 points in a win over rival Calvert Hall at the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament.
