Junior forward Anthony Walker followed his own miss to just beat the buzzer as defending Class 4A state champion Perry Hall survived a scare from Mervo to win, 66-64, on Monday night and advance to the North’s Section I final.
Walker led the No. 10 Gators with 23 points while senior guard Tyler Holley added 16, offsetting a 33-point performance from the Mustangs’ Will Thomas.
Perry Hall (17-6) will play at No. 14 Dulaney — a 60-52 winner over Catonsville in Monday’s other semifinal — Wednesday at 6 p.m.
During the regular season, Perry Hall claimed an 80-77 home win over the Lions on Jan. 3.
No. 5 Poly 77, City 43: In a Class 3A Section I semifinal, the defending state champion Engineers (19-6) took charge early and were never threatened with All-Metro senior guard Demetrius Mims scoring a game-high 32 points.
Sophomore point guard Rahim Ali added 17 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, while sophomore forward Justin Lewis finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Poly, which will face the Potomac-Oxon Hill winner in Wednesday’s section title game.
