KEYS TO VICTORY
The opening game of the Charm City vs. Windy Cindy Shootout has the top-ranked Panthers against perennial Chicago power Morgan Park, which won the Illinois Class 3A state title last season and is ranked No. 6 in The Chicago Tribune’s Top 20 poll. The Panthers, ranked No. 25 nationally in USA Today’s Top 25, have been on a roll playing one of the area’s toughest schedules. A deep roster has been the key with Baldwin running the show and Epps providing leadership and game-changing plays. Rajeir Jones, Jordan Toles, Koran Moore, Edward Ferguson, Jason Murphy and Bassirou Diop have all pitched in with big minutes. The Mustangs have a largely new cast from last year’s championship team because of graduation, transfers and injuries, but they still have been able to thrive. With their talented one-two senior frontcourt punch of Ayo Dosunmu and Tamell Pearson out with injuries, they have leaned on their sophomore backcourt duo of sharpshooting Miller and point guard Marcus Watson to lead the way with Burrell the threat inside. The second game of the showcase at St. Frances features No. 5 Poly against Simeon Academy, which is ranked No. 1 in Chicago. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
