Boys Athlete of the Week: Keonte Potts, Centennial, basketball

Mostly coming off the bench last season on a senior-laden team that reached the Class 3A state final, Potts showed he had the potential to become the Eagles' go-to player. This season, he has done just that with consistently fine play at both ends of the court to lead the No. 10 Eagles to a 6-1 start. In wins over Howard County foes Glenelg (73-57 on Dec. 21) and River Hill (75-41 on Wednesday), Potts had productive efforts that have become the norm for him this season. Against Glenelg, he scored 21 points and also finished with nine steals. He came back against River Hill and had 20 points and three steals to put the Eagles at 6-0 in league play. For the season, Potts averages 23 points and four steals per game. He is shooting 51 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the 3-point line. In last year's playoff run, he averaged 15 points in five games, including 18 in the Eagles' 56-54 state semifinal win over South Hagerstown.
