The Poets quarterback threw for 324 yards and completed a pass with no time remaining on the clock to clinch a 24-21 victory in the Class 2A state semifinals at Kent Island. Spencer was nearly sacked on the final play but escaped and tossed a pass to Ivan Lomax for the game winner and Dunbar's only lead of the game. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior completed 19 of 43 passes, including four touchdowns. He also ran 19 times for 65 yards. In leading the No. 14 Poets (10-3) to their 11th state final, Spencer has thrown for 2,599 yards and 30 touchdowns and run for 608 yards and eight touchdowns this fall.
