All-Metro Baseball Player of the Year: Tyler Blohm, Archbishop Spalding

Archbishop Spalding senior Tyler Blohm, a 6-foot-3 left-hander who was masterful on the mound all season, finished 9-0 with a 0.74 ERA to lead the Cavaliers to a 27-5 record, the metro area's No. 1 ranking and their third straight Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference title.

Using a plus curveball, a changeup and a fastball clocked as high as 91 mph, Blohm accumulated 103 strikeouts against just 13 walks over 66 innings, holding hitters to a .142 batting average.

Along the way he shut out St. John's, St. Mary's, Loyola Blakefield and Archbishop Curley.

Blohm was named Gatorade Maryland Baseball Player of the Year and was selected to play in the Brooks Robinson High School All-Star Game of Maryland today at Camden Yards.

The 18-year-old, who was ranked as the state's fifth-best prospect by Prep Baseball Report, has signed to continue his career at Maryland.

This month, he was drafted in the 17th round by the Orioles. He is keeping both options on the table.
