No. 3 New Town (18-1) vs. Franklin (16-6)When: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.Where: Towson University’s SECU ArenaHow they got here: New Town overwhelmed the competition in the league’s Division I with a 10-0 record, highlighted by a 78-54 win at No. 9 Dulaney on Jan. 23. Franklin claimed Division II by a tiebreaker over Perry Hall and Chesapeake with a 63-54 home win against Towson on Thursday.Outlook: Winners of 14 straight, New Town plays at a fast but controlled pace with fine help defense, responsible rebounding and sharing the ball on offense. Junior wing Andrew Mills leads the team in scoring at 16 points per game, senior Jordan Guerrero averages 12 and three others are in double figures. Franklin is a surprise entry in the title game, also relying on quality team play with an emphasis on scrappy defense, taking care of the basketball and balanced scoring. Junior Ben Murphy leads the offense with 16.4 points per game, while Reggie Truitt (12.5 ppg) and AJ Sims (11 ppg.) also average in double figures. Sims, junior Nick Hall and Quinten Conwill (four blocks per game) have been stalwarts on defense. Neutralizing the Titans’ superior size, athleticism and skills will be the key for the Indians, who must rebound effectively and be smart with each possession. On SECU’s big floor, the Titans will try to push the tempo and turn hassling defense into transition points.
