Josh Alcombright, Severna Park’s cross country coach for 18 years, knows how to build a talented, deep team and have it remain so through the years.

The Falcons captured the Anne Arundel County championship by placing eight runners in the top 10. All-Metro first-team selections Garrison Clark and Jonah Lane were first and second. A week later, the team scored a perfect 15 points to win the Class 4A East Region meet when five Falcons swept the top five spots.

In total, seven Falcons placed in the top eight. Their performance set up for a highly competitive 4A state meet on Nov. 11 at Hereford. There, Severna Park scored 40 points to outlast Dulaney, last year’s 4A state champ, which scored 77.

The county championship victory was the Falcons’ 10th in the past 11 seasons and the regional title victory was the team’s 10th straight. Clark, a junior, won the region meet and raced to second place at the 4A state meet in 15 minutes, 57.7 seconds.
