Riding the momentum from a victory by double digits over Milford Mill two days earlier, New Town cruised Friday to an 83-60 win over Loch Raven.
Stephon Marcano was the driving force for the Titans, scoring 21 points on the night and taking on the role of distributor in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach.
“My team’s energy, that’s the big key factor that led into my shooting,” said Marcano. “They told me to keep shooting and I missed a couple in the first half. They said to keep shooting. So, I just kept shooting, they kept giving it to me and we rolled from that.”
As New Town begins looking toward prepping for a playoff run, head coach Derek Wise is preaching to his team about playing with hustle and playing a complete game from the bench to the starters.
“High energy and the bench the whole game was into it and that got the guys who were on the floor into it,” Wise said. “Everyone just fed off of that energy. We shared the basketball, we had a lot of assists, we played tough defense down the stretch, we rebounded well and I think that’s what led us to the victory.”
Getting to the foul line early and often was the name of the game for New Town, as the team drained 10 free throws in the first quarter. Seniors Marcano and Andrew Mills led the way for New Town’s 23-17 lead at the end of the frame.

“[Andrew] works extremely hard,” Marcano said. “He shows it in the game and he doesn’t really let the early game affect him or his foul trouble because he got in foul trouble. He persevered, still played his game, still kept his composure and he’s just a great player.”
New Town expanded on its lead in the second quarter with six different players scoring. Loch Raven’s Sean Powell led the quarter with five points, as the Raiders trailed 38-26 at the half.
The Titans continued to apply pressure to Loch Raven in the second half, jumping out to a 15-point lead in the third quarter. Marcano blew up in the third, hitting three 3-pointers and scoring 11 points in the period.
Kyree Johnson (12 points) and Mills (11) joined Marcano in double figures scoring by game’s end.
