Charlie Jones scored 22 points for the second straight game to lead No. 2 Mount St. Joseph over Charlotte Christian (N.C.), 77-57, in the championship of the Piggly Wiggly Roundball Classic in Charleston, S.C., on Saturday.

He scored 22 in a 66-60 win over Porter-Gaud (S.C.) on Friday.


The Gaels (14-2) used speed and tough defense to beat the Knights. Phil Booth had 18 points, and Ohio State-bound Kameron Williams added 16. Charlotte's Patrick Rooks had a game-high 25 points.

Next for the Gaels is a showdown against No. 1 St. Frances on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Brother Martin (La.) 56, No. 6 Archbishop Spalding 41: Earl Potts made the All Tournament Team, but the Cavaliers (10-5) fell to the Crusaders (20-1) in the championship of the St. Pius X Tournament in Atlanta.

No. 14 Forest Park 68, National Academy Foundation 45: Bryen Haley had 21 points and 10 rebounds to power the Foresters (8-1) past the Eagles at the Warrior Mixer at Woodlawn.

St. Anthony's (N.Y.) 64, St. Paul's 56: The Crusaders (2-5) lost their second straight game at the Council Rock Tournament in Philadelphia. Zach Bare and Blake Brown each scored 14 points for St. Paul's, which lost, 49-47, to Central Bucks South (Pa.) on Friday.

Glenelg Country School 74, Largo 68: Kevin Boyd scored 28 points and the Dragons (7-6) held off a rally by the Lions in the consolation game of the Mount Vernon Tournament in Alexandria, Va.

Girls basketball

Tucker (Ga.) 40, No. 3 McDonogh 33: After losing Wednesday's opener to Science Hills (Tenn.), McDonogh (6-5) won two straight and advanced to Saturday's consolation final at the Naples Holiday Shootout before falling to the Tigers.

Brianna Jacobs led the Eagles with 11 points. McDonogh lost, 58-43, to the Hilltoppers, and then won the next two, by scores of 50-22 and 51-22.


Benedictine (Va.) 66, No. 8 John Carroll 62: The host Cadets (13-0) used size and Division I talent to beat the Patriots (12-5) at their Capital City Classic in Richmond, Va.

After trailing by 12 at the half, John Carroll used defensive pressure to tighten the score.

Canisius (N.Y.) 67, Loyola 45: The Crusaders handed the Dons (3-7) their second straight loss at the Father George National Jesuit Christmas Classic Tournament at Georgetown Prep.
