The McDonogh's boys basketball team squad did what no other Eagles squad has been able to do in 10 years: beat John Carroll.
The host Eagles (8-3, 4-1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) used a combination of 3-pointers and foul shots Tuesday to upset the top-ranked Patriots, 58-55.
The perennial Harford County power had won 15 straight against McDonogh.
McDonogh jumped out to a 20-14 lead after the first quarter and John Carroll battled back to take a four-point lead in the second half.
But the Eagles made nine 3-pointers and went 9-for-9 from the free-throw line to win. Kimbal Mackenzie had a game-high 21 points for the Patriots (11-1, 5-1).
