Roundup: Seton Keough surprises No. 15 Catonsville, 49-32

Seton Keough's suffocating first-quarter defense helped build a 19-2 lead on the No. 15 Catonsville girls basketball team, which never recovered in a 49-32 loss in the final game of the Merritt Properties Catonsville Cup basketball tournament Saturday.

The visiting Gators (4-3) were led by sophomores Brittani Smith (12 points) and Kaila Jennings (11). Sophomore Sydney Mitchell added six points and senior Amani Wallace contributed five for the winners.

The Comets (4-2), who tied the game at 30, were led by freshman Jasmine Dickey (eight points), senior Renee Gast (seven), sophomore Jen Gast and freshman Jemelia Barrett (six each).

St. John Vianney (N.J.) 65, No. 2 Roland Park 58: The duo of Kimi Evans (20 points) and Kelly Campbell (16 points) proved too much as the Lancers took a 40-27 lead at the half and beat the Reds (7-2) at the Hoop Queens of the Ball tournament at Francis Lewis High School in Queens, N.Y.

Jeydah Johnson led Roland Park with 20 points.

No. 14 Archbishop Spalding 48, Grainger (Tenn.) 38: The Cavaliers (6-1) stretched their one-point halftime lead by outscoring the Lady Grizzlies 21-12 in the second half at the Seahawks Holiday Classic in Hilton Head, S.C.

Spalding's Madison Gorman and Victoria Reynolds had 14 points each.

No. 4 St. Frances 73, No. 15 Mount Carmel 47: The visiting Cougars (7-7), led by Montez Mathis with 13 points, were overpowered by the Panthers (12-3).

Annapolis Area Christian School 63, St. John's-Catholic Prep 54: Josh Vlna scored 17 points to lead the host Eagles (9-2) past the Vikings (1-9).

St. John's-CP led 32-28 at the break.

River Hill 62, Cardozo 47: Charles Thomas (17 points), Jaden Martin (15) and Marc DeSimone (11) scored in double figures to help the Hawks (2-4) pull away in the second half in the DMV Tip Off Classic at North Point.
