Varsity roundup (Oct. 5): McDonogh, Gilman play to 1-1 tie in soccer

Boys soccer

No. 1 McDonogh 1, No. 11 Gilman 1, 2OT: Christian Mason scored for the visiting Eagles (7-0-1, 7-0-1 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference) and Logan Paff scored for the Greyhounds (7-3-1, 5-2-1). Both goals were in the second half.

No. 3 Loyola Blakefield 1, No. 14 Calvert Hall 0, 2OT: Matt Lala scored the game-winner from 20-yards out in the bottom right corner of the net with three minutes left in the second overtime to lift the host Dons (8-0, 7-0 MIAA A Conference) over the Cardinals (6-4, 5-4). Lala recovered and settled the ball after an unsuccessful clear attempt and shot.

No. 7 Eastern Tech 5, Catonsville 0: Isaac Ngobu had two goals and Benjamin Kropp had a goal and an assist to lead the host Mavericks (8-1-1) past the Comets (1-4-1). The win marked the sixth straight overall and fifth shutout of the season.

No. 9 Archbishop Curley 5, St. Paul's 0: Brandon Herr made four saves and Anthony Dragisics had a hat trick to lead the visiting Friars (5-6, 5-5 MIAA A Conference) past the Crusaders (2-8-1, 1-8-1).

Broadneck 1, Severna Park 0: Brady Coogan scored the game-winner in the second half to lift the Bruins (8-2) over the host Falcons (6-3).

Mount Saint Joseph 2, John Carroll 1, OT: Dmitri Jordan and Tyquan Stroud each scored for the visiting Gaels (4-5-1, 4-5-1 MIAA A Conference). Stroud had an assist too. The Patriots fell to 2-11, 0-9 .

Severn 2, St. Mary's 0: Jacob Lavine and Colin McCarthy each scored to lead the Admirals (10-3, 9-1) past the host Saints (1-11, 1-9).

Girls soccer

No. 13 Perry Hall 2, No. 3 Hereford 0: Peyton Eibner and Madison Trevillian each scored as the Gators (8-2) upset the host Bulls (9-1).

Football

No. 4 Broadneck 35, Old Mill 0: Freshman Josh Ehrlich went 19-for-28 for 197 yards and three touchdowns to lead the host Bruins (6-0) past the Patriots (3-3). Broadneck's Jason Carcamo had 10 carries for 101 yards.

No. 13 Arundel 56, North County 12: Austin Slye completed 15 of 19 passes for 177 yards and four touchdown passes to lead the host Wildcats (5-1) past the Knights (0-6). Arundel led 22-0 in the first quarter and cruised.

Howard 22, Long Reach 12: Senior running back Devin Dawkins, who was limited to five touches because of an injury last week against River Hill, ran for over 100 yards, and senior quarterback Jerry O'Neill efficiently drove the Lions (5-1) down the field throughout the game. On defense, the Lions allowed just one offensive touchdown to Long Reach (4-2).

Owings Mills 36, Western Tech 0: One season after finishing 0-10, the Eagles improved to 4-2 with a shutout over the Wolverines (2-4) at the Community College of Baltimore County, Catonsville .

John Lemon also rushed for a score and James Jones capped the scoring with a sack and fumble return from 27 yards out.

Field hockey

No. 2 Archbishop Spalding 5, Bryn Mawr 2: Margot Lawn had two goals and two assists and Shelby Bumgarner had two goals to lead the Cavaliers (11-2, 4-1 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) past the Mawritans (2-5, 0-4).

Maryvale 4, Glenelg Country 1: Lizzie DeGuzman had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Lions (6-5) past the Dragons (0-7).

Girls volleyball

No. 12 Maryvale 3, Notre Dame Prep 0: Claire Neff had 23 kill and 10 digs to lead the host Lions (11-3, 8-3 IAAM A Conference) past the Blazers (3-8, 3-7). Maryvale won, 25-22, 25-15, 25-16.
