Varsity roundup (Sept. 15): Calvert Hall surges past Riverdale Baptist for fourth straight football win

No. 3 Calvert Hall 23, Riverdale Baptist 13: The host Crusaders (3-1) pulled to within, 10-6, but the Cardinals (4-0) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to pull away. Amir Jenkins threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Kai Sasaki with 5:02 left in the game and Sean Tucker had a 5-yard touchdown run with three minutes left for Calvert Hall.

Severn 26, St. Albans (D.C.) 22: Henry Rentz had three receiving touchdowns and an interception returned for a touchdown to lead the Admirals (1-2) past the host Bulldogs (1-2).

Boys soccer

No. 13 Bel Air 2, No. 14 John Carroll 1: Rodney Mairose scored twice on assists from Ethan Lassen and Marco Robletto-Baggett and Ben Cook recorded three saves as the host Bobcats (4-1) beat the Patriots (0-3).

Girls soccer

Chesapeake-AA 4, Bowie 0: Haley Downin and Leia Black each had a goal and an assist to lead the Cougars (4-0) past the host Bulldogs (0-2). Chesapeake led 1-0 at the half.

Boys volleyball

John Carroll 3, Bel Air 0: Matt Smidt had 27 assists, Nico Santoro had 12 kills and Mark Dent had eight kills as the Patriots (3-1) beat the host Bobcats (0-2). John Carroll won, 25-17, 25-20, 25-18.

Girls volleyball

Bel Air 3, John Carroll 1: Maddie Reagan had seven kills and six aces to lead the host Bobcats (4-0) past the Patriots (3-4). Bel Air won, 25-12, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18.

Friday boys soccer

Patapsco 2, Owings Mills 1: Paul Steinert and Charles Tyner each scored to lead the host Patriots (4-0) past the Golden Eagles (2-1).
