Varsity roundup (Sept. 14): Gilman edges Mount Saint Joseph in soccer; Spalding girls capture third straight

Boys soccer

Gilman 2, Mount Saint Joseph 1: Tyler Martinez and Logan Paff each scored to lead the visiting Greyhounds (2-2, 1-1 MIAA A Conference) past the Gaels (1-1-1, 1-1-1).

Girls soccer

No. 2 Archbishop Spalding 5, St. Mary's 0: Ashley Tutas had a goal and an assist and Lauren Korsnick had two assists to lead the visiting Cavaliers (3-0, 1-0 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) past the Saints (1-2, 0-2).

Severn 1, Mount de Sales 0: Mori Sokoloff scored the game-winner for the visiting Admirals (1-4, 1-0 IAAM B Conference). The Sailors fell to 0-3-1, 0-1.

Maryvale 4, Institute of Notre Dame 0: Kennedy Koehler had two goals and an assist to lead the host Lions (3-2-1, 1-0 IAAM B Conference) past the Penguins (2-2, 0-1).

Football

Loyola Blakefield 42, Archbishop Curley 0: The host Dons (2-0) rolled past the Friars (0-3). The victory marked the second straight shutout, after beating Boys' Latin, 24-0, on Sept. 7.

Landon 33, Boys' Latin 7: The host Bears (3-0) scored 27 points in the second half to pull away from the Lakers (0-3). Boys' Latin led, 7-6, in the first half.

 

Field hockey

Patterson Mill 4, Manchester Valley 1: Sarah McCollum, Julia Frankis and Sydney Beck each had a goal and an assist to lead the host Huskies (1-4) past the Mavericks (1-2).

Girls volleyball

No. 8 Arundel 3, Towson 0: Brooke Watts had seven kills to lead the visiting Wildcats (4-0) past the Generals (2-4). Arundel won 25-16, 25-14, 25-21.

St. Mary's 3, IND 0: Sydney Heatley had nine aces and 11 assists to lead the host Saints (3-1, 2-0 IAAM B Conference) past the Penguins (1-2, 1-2). St. Mary's won, 25-16, 25-8, 25-7.
