Poly defeats Carver, 32-0, in football for 2nd shutout

The Engineers keep rolling, with their second shutout in as many games.

James Chappell had three touchdowns and No. 9 Poly shut out host Carver, 32-0, Friday.

Chappell had eight rushes for 143 yards and two touchdowns, two catches for 25 yards and a touchdown and a two-point conversion for Poly (2-0).

Poly shutout DuVal (Prince George's), 28-0, last week.

Priestly Shuler had 12 tackles and a sack for the Engineers.

No. 7 Arundel 53, Northeast 0: Gary Cropper scored two touchdowns, including a 96-yard punt return, as the Wildcats (2-0) shut out the Eagles (0-2).

Arundel had 397 yards of total offense and held Northeast to 119. Josh Albo led the Wildcat defense with eight tackles, including five solo.

No. 13 Broadneck 34, Chesapeake-AA 7: Brady George threw two touchdowns (7-for-13 for 204 yards) and rushed for another (9-for-25) to lead the host Bruins (1-1) past the Bayhawks.

Boys soccer

No. 7 Mount St. Joseph 4, No. 13 Calvert Hall 1: Joe Kaiser scored twice to power the host Gaels (2-2) past the Cardinals (0-1).

Girls soccer

Bishop O'Connell 2, No. 3 Archbishop Spalding 1: After a scoreless first half, the Knights (2-0) took a 2-0 lead in the second half and held off a late rally by the Cavaliers (1-1). Gracyn Bryant headed the ball in on a corner kick from Kelly Patterson with five minutes left in the game.

No. 13 Bryn Mawr 6, Towson 2: Danielle Hogarth had a hat trick to power the host Mawrtians (2-1) past the Generals. Bryn Mawr led 3-0 at the half.

Field hockey

No. 5 Bryn Mawr 2, Roland Park 1: After battling to a scoreless first half, Molly Danko scored twice to led the Mawrtians (2-0) over the visiting Reds.

No. 10 Notre Dame Prep 5, St. Mary's 2: Anne Federico had two goals and an assist to lead the visiting Blazers (2-0) past the Saints.

Girls volleyball

No. 1 Arundel def. Northern-Calvert 3-0: Ashlyn Tapley led the way with 15 kills and 11 digs as the top-ranked Wildcats (2-0) defeated the Patriots, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-22. Shannon Wilks had 21 digs and Allie Orr added seven kills.

No. 3 St. Paul's def. Seton Keough 3-0: Kabira Haskins had 12 kills and Jillian Randolph had nine kills to lead St. Paul's (2-0) past Seton Keough, 25-16, 25-8, 25-13. Haley Fitzgerald had 29 assists for St. Paul's.
