Varsity roundup (May 12): Glenelg Country defeats Park in IAAM B Conference lacrosse semifinal

The Glenelg Country girls lacrosse team is one game away from a perfect season. The Dragons improved to 17-0 by beating Park, 17-9, in Thursday's Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference semifinal.

Glenelg Country will face Mercy in Saturday's championship at Archbishop Spalding at 5 p.m.

The Dragons extended a one-goal halftime lead with an 11-4 run in the second half. The Bruins' season ended at 10-7. Alyssa Arnold had a game-high five goals for Glenelg Country.

Chapelgate girls lacrosse ends season in heart-breaking, 9-8 loss to St. Tim's in the IAAM C semifinals Thursday, May 12 at St. Timothy's School.

St. Timothy's 9, Chapelgate Christian 8: Jen Holland scored the go-ahead with 8:10 left as host St. Timothy's (11-6) took its only lead and beat the Eagles (8-8) in an IAAM C Conference semifinal.

Bailey Creamer finished with four goals for St. Timothy's.

No. 3 C. Milton Wright 13, Patapsco 1: Morghan Fulton worked four innings, gave up one run on one hit and struck out nine and Arianna Gallamoza pitched one inning of relief as the host Mustangs (14-4) shut out the Patriots (0-15) in a Class 3A North Section II quarterfinal.

Emily Kim (2-for-3) and Lexi Childress (2-for-2) each hit two doubles for C. Milton Wright, which hosts North Harford in Monday's section final at 4 p.m.

No. 11 Mount de Sales 3, McDonogh 0: Right-hander Emily Fitzsimmons (18-4) went seven innings, gave up five hits and struck out five as the host Sailors (18-6) shut out the Eagles (12-6) in an IAAM A Conference semifinal.

Mount de Sales faces No. 2 Archbishop Spalding in today's championship at Bachman Sports Complex.

Catonsville High played flawless defense and the offense took advantage of eight walks and eight hits in the Comets' 11-1 playoff victory over Kenwood (5-11).

Catonsville 11, Kenwood 1: Freshmen Erin Kreis and Caitlin McCormick and sophomore Alyssa James each had two hits and the Comets (9-7) played error-free ball in a win over the visiting Bluebirds (5-11) in Class 4A North Section I quarterfinal. Kreis allowed six hits while walking two.

Hammond scores seven times in seventh, but Atholton softball hangs on for 10-8 victory in opening-round playoff win

Atholton 10, Hammond 8: The host Raiders (13-5) had their comfortable lead challenged by a seven-run seventh inning, but held on to beat the Bears (4-15) in a Class 3A East Section II quarterfinal.
