Varsity roundup: Carter leads Dulaney to 7-5 win over No. 13 Franklin in men's lacrosse

Dulaney attackman Cameron Carter kept the Lions close against No. 13 Franklin with his good passing in the Class 4A-3A South region District I final on Monday.

And then it was his shooting that sent Dulaney further along in the playoffs.

Carter scored the game's last three goals — finishing with three goals and three assists — to lift Dulaney to a 7-5 win over the Baltimore County champion Indians.

Dulaney (13-3) advances to Wednesday's region title game, where it meets either Old Mill or North County.

It was the 11th straight win for the Lions and avenged a 7-4 loss to Franklin on March 30.

It wasn't easy. After a scoreless first quarter, the host Indians scored three goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter and had a 4-1 lead midway through the third quarter before the Lions found their way.

Trailing 5-4 with 6:27 to play, Carter scored twice in a 24-second span to give the Lions their first lead. After two big stops by goalie Burke McManus (eight saves), Carter added an insurance goal with 1:34 to play.

"The plan was to empty our tank — from the first whistle to the last whistle — and I thought the guys did that," Dulaney coach Kyle Fiat said."He's one of those players that really understands the game mentally, and he's fortunate to have a lot of physical ability, too. He's a very quick kid and he's very skilled. At the end, you talk about poise. … Cameron did a nice job of controlling the ball and really taking control of the offense and control of the game. "

It was a difficult end to a fine season for the Indians, who ended Hereford's run of six straight Baltimore County championships with a 7-6 win May 2. Senior midfielder Addison Abramson had one goal and two assists to lead Franklin on Monday.
