Jake Carraway scored three goals and assisted on one, and nine other players scored for the No. 6 St. Mary's boys lacrosse team in a 15-9 victory over visiting Severn on Friday.
The Saints improved to 5-3 in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference and can clinch a playoff berth with a victory over Mount Saint Joseph on Tuesday. St. Mary's also moved into sole possession of fifth place by virtue of Calvert Hall's loss to McDonogh. Should the Saints lose to the Gaels, they can still qualify for the postseason if Gilman loses to McDonogh.
Sean Mooney, Jack Andrews and Nick Boyles each added two goals and an assist and Timmy Troutner stopped 14 shots for St. Mary's, which won its third straight and eighth in the past nine meetings with the Admirals.
Tyler Perreten, Michael Lamon and Hunter Tyler each scored two goals for Severn, which lost its eighth straight in conference play. Three of the losses have been by three goals or fewer.
No. 4 St. Paul's 16, No. 14 Mount Saint Joseph 9: Carter Flaig had two goals and five assists to lead the host Crusaders (13-5, 6-2 MIAA A Conference) past the Gaels (8-9, 2-6).
Severna Park 9, No. 11 Annapolis 4: Brett Pohlmeyer had five points (three goals, two assists) to help the Falcons (8-5) upset the host Panthers (10-3).
No. 15 Gilman 8, Archbishop Spalding 6: The visiting Greyhounds (6-7, 4-4 MIAA A Conference), led by Charlie DeMuth's two goals and one assist, continued their surge in the second half of the season by beating the Cavaliers (4-12, 1-7).
The win marks the fourth straight league victory after Gilman lost four straight from April 7 to 17.
Baseball
No. 4 Mount Saint Joseph 6, Loyola Blakefield 2: Tim McManus hit a two-out triple to score two runs in the second inning as the host Gaels (14-8) beat the Dons (8-13).
No. 13 Howard 2, Wilde Lake 0: James King threw a shutout for the host Lions (15-4). Both runs were scored in the fifth inning.
Broadneck 3, No. 14 South River 2: Sean Gaheen (2-for-3) hit an RBI single in the fifth and the game-winning double in the seventh inning as the Bruins (11-5) upset the host Seahawks (9-5).
C. Milton Wright 3, Harford Tech 0: Tyler Hickey threw a shutout, allowing four hits and striking out 10, as the host Mustangs (6-9) beat the Cobras (6-9).
Tom Chiascione went 2-for-3 and had a stolen base for C. Milton Wright.
Softball
North Harford 5, No. 5 Bel Air 0: The host Bobcats (13-3) committed three errors and the Hawks (11-6) scored three runs in the sixth inning.
Alexis Lyttle got the win. Bel Air had a total of six hits, with Brianna Fleischmann and Rayn Gibson both hitting a single and a triple.
No. 6 Archbishop Spalding 4, Mount de Sales 3: Ali Caulkins struck out three for the win and the host Cavaliers (12-5) scored the winning run in the seventh to beat the Sailors (8-5).
No. 7 Severna Park 11, Annapolis 0: Starter Darby Hehl and relievers Gracie Logan and Jenny Lang combined to throw a no-hitter for the host Falcons (14-2).
Hehl worked three innings and struck out two, Logan and Lang each worked an inning. Lang had two strikeouts.
Maggie Praley (3-for-3) had a double,a triple and four RBIs. The Panthers fell to 0-13.
No. 14 Broadneck 2, South River 0: Ally Thompson struck out 16 and had the only extra-base hit of the game, a double, to lead the host Bruins (13-5) past the Seahawks (10-8).
