Roundup: Mount Carmel tops Mount St. Joe, 58-43, in BCL quarterfinal

Will Jenkins (15 points) led a trio of double-digit scorers as No. 3 Mount Carmel beat Mount Saint Joseph, 58-43, in a Baltimore Catholic League tournament quarterfinal Friday at Calvert Hall.

Frank Webb scored 14 points and David Erebor added 12 for the Cougars (27-7), who will face No. 1 Calvert Hall in Sunday's semifinal at 7:30 p.m. at Towson.

The Gaels (19-13) trailed by two points after the first quarter before matching Mount Carmel basket for basket in the second and third quarters. But the Cougars wore Mount Saint Joseph down and closed out strong with an 18-5 run in the fourth quarter.

St. Frances 56, St. Maria Goretti 53: The Panthers (25-10) beat the Gaels (22-9) in a Baltimore Catholic League quarterfinal at Calvert Hall.

St. Frances will face No. 5 John Carroll (26-6) in Sunday's semifinal at 5:30 p.m. at Towson.

No. 6 Meade 78, Old Mill 65: Tristan Easton scored 29 points and the Mustangs won their 20th straight to finish 21-1 overall and 16-0 in Anne Arundel County.

The Patriots dropped to 11-11, 8-8.

No. 7 Oakland Mills 65, Reservoir 60, OT: Will Robinson Jr. scored a game-high 20 points and the host Scorpions (18-3) needed overtime to beat the Gators.

Oakland Mills outscored Reservoir 9-4 in the extra period.

New Town 80, Pikesville 63: Devin Smith scored 23 points to power the Titans (14-6) past the host Panthers (9-13).

New Town led 49-38 at the break.

Annapolis 59, South River 41: Charles Meiklejohn scored a game-high 27 points to lift the Panthers (16-5) over the host Seahawks (12-8).

Annapolis opened with a 20-10 run in the first quarter.

Girls

No. 7 Atholton 49, Glenelg 46: Led by Chelsea Mitchell's 24 points, the Raiders (17-1) clinched at least a share of their first Howard County title since 2007, when they also won their only state title.

The Gladiators led 25-24 at halftime after overcoming a 14-3 deficit in the first quarter. Glenelg went on a 6-0 run to start the second half and extend its lead to 31-24.

Mitchell put Atholton ahead in the fourth quarter when she made a jumper in the paint with a minute left and then made two free throws with 18 seconds left.

The Raiders have played 15 straight games away from their home court, which is being renovated, and have won 16 straight.

Atholton closes the regular season at Oakland Mills (11-7) on Monday.

Catonsville 56, Western Tech 32: Renee Gast scored 19 points and Jasmine Dickey had 18 points to lead the host Comets (17-4) past the Wolverines (12-8).

Catonsville will face No. 4 Milford Mill (19-1) in Tuesday's Baltimore County Division II championship at 5 p.m. at Towson.
