Calvert Hall, John Carroll roll to Baltimore Catholic League basketball semifinals

The top-ranked Calvert Hall boys basketball team cruised through the quarterfinals of the Baltimore Catholic League tournament Thursday.

The Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference champions beat Archbishop Spalding, 80-42.

Nico Clareth scored 26 points to lead the Cardinals (27-5), who advance to face the winner of today's game between No. 3 Mount Carmel and Mount Saint Joseph in Sunday's semifinal at Towson University. The Cavaliers end their season 4-26.

No. 5 John Carroll 53, Loyola Blakefield 30: Changing defenses and full-court traps took the Dons (5-22) out of their game as the Patriots (26-6) advance to Sunday's BCL semifinal.

Malik Tyne had 13 points for John Carroll, which faces the winner of today's game between St. Frances and St. Maria Goretti.

No. 6 Meade 59, Severna Park 39: Tristan Easton scored a game-high 27 points to lead the visiting Mustangs (20-1) past the Falcons (5-16).

Meade took a 36-19 lead at halftime.

No. 14 Edmondson 72, Douglass 57: Robert McClain scored 23 points to lead the Red Storm (16-5) past the host Ducks (6-11).

Malik Holloway scored a game-high 25 points for Douglass.

Annapolis 71, Old Mill 54: Charles Meiklejohn scored a game-high 29 points to power the Panthers (10-6) past the host Patriots (11-7).

Annapolis jumped out to a 27-10 start to build separation.

Girls basketball

No. 8 City 59, Dunbar 50: Nkeiruka Okororie scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Knights (16-5) past the host Poets (8-7).
