Pikesville turned the ball over three consecutive times in the final 40 seconds, but Roy Sweets made two free throws with 12 seconds left as the host Panthers upset No. 11 Milford Mill, 70-69, in boys basketball Wednesday.
Pikesville (6-10) went ahead 14-11 in the first quarter and never relinquished the lead again. The Panthers' biggest lead came at halftime, 41-22.
Pikesville coach Anthony Dorsey used a matchup zone defense and a box-and-one down the stretch to contain Justin Jenifer, who finished with a game-high 31 points.
"We made them take tough shots," Dorsey said. "And we just pick-and-rolled, getting easy layups."
The Millers (13-4) came back in the final 40 seconds, drawing to within 68-67 before Sweets hit his free throws. Alon Purrio had 26 points, including seven 3-pointers, and Jesane Phillander added 22 points and 16 rebounds for Pikesville.

Annapolis Area Christian 50, Institute of Notre Dame 33: Taylor Murray scored the 2,000th point of her career in the Eagles' (21-3) win over the Penguins (8-13).
Murray, who finished with 30 points, 11 steals, nine rebounds, three assists and a block, entered the game needing just five points to reach 2,000. She scored 15 in the first quarter.
About 4:30 into the first quarter, Murray pulled up for a long-range jumper from the left side, just inside the arc, and made it to reach 2,001 points. She scored using the ball she used to score her 1,000th point on Dec. 13, 2013, at Bryn Mawr.
"I have never seen anything like her," AACS coach Victor Watson said. "She has unbelievable talent and is a great person to go with that talent, not selfish at all. She engages me in things we need to do and helps me out because it is my first year coaching high school girls. She has just been a tremendous player and athlete and competing-wise, and mentally she is so tough."
