Roundup: Meade boys top North County for 12th straight win

Bruce Spruell and Jerry Washington led the way and No. 11 Meade won its 12th straight, a 64-47 victory over North County, on Thursday in boys basketball.

Spruell finished with a game-high 15 points and Washington had 13 for the Mustangs (13-1).

Meade extended its seven-point halftime lead by outscoring the Knights (2-11) 23-13 in the third quarter.

South River 56, Arundel 29: Jalen Gillespie and Josh Lee each scored 13 points to lead the Seahawks past the Wildcats. South River (10-5) built a 17-point halftime lead and held the Wildcats to just 12 points in the second half.

Rob Colvin scored nine points to lead Arundel (5-9).

Girls basketball

No. 7 Patterson Mill 52, Fallston 8: Qalea Ismail scored a game-high 21 points to power the host Huskies (12-3) past the Cougars (7-8).

South River 50, Arundel 43: Kennedi Colclough scored 10 points, but the host Wildcats (8-4) lost to the Seahawks (14-1).

Arundel led 16-13 at the break but fell behind in the second half and was forced to foul in the closing minutes of play.

Beth Tfiloh 56, Indian Creek 36: Aly Chason scored 16 points to lead the host Warriors (5-6) past the Eagles (7-5).

Wrestling

No. 13 Archbishop Spalding 48, St. Paul's 30: The host Cavaliers (16-9) won four back-to-back matches to pull away from the Crusaders.

Adam Taylor (170) won and gave Spalding the lead, at 30-24, for good.

North County 36, Severna Park 30: Javale Pharr's pin of Peter Murphy just 65 seconds into the meet's final match (220) gave North County the win after Severna Park won five consecutive matches to tie the meet at 30.

The Knights (9-13) got pins from Montez Coleman (106), Kiana Deschamps (113), Juwan Smith (126), Troy Fulwiler (138) and Jordan Yi (145) to take a 30-11 advantage with six bouts remaining.

Severna Park rallied with five consecutive wins. Matt Valliant started the Falcon rally with a pin of Danny Koors at 152, followed by decisions from Matt O'Callaghan, Trevor Bellotte, Paul Kalafos (major decision) and Kyle Craven to tie the meet.
