Roundup: No. 5 Lake Clifton boys outlast Dunbar, 40-38

The host Dunbar boys basketball team defended its home court for the first half, before No. 5 Lake Clifton found its offensive groove in the second half and won 40-38, Tuesday.

Derrick Green finished with a game-high 17 points for the Lakers (12-2). The host Poets (5-7) used a 2-3 zone to slow the game down and took a seven-point halftime lead. But, Lake Clifton went on a 15-5 run in the third quarter to take the lead for good.

No. 7 Edmondson 62, Digital Harbor 34: Kani Coles scored 16 points and the host Red Storm (11-2) outpaced the Rams (5-5).

Edmondson led 36-19 at halftime.

No. 11 Meade 67, South River 51: The host Seahawks (9-5) made a push in the third quarter, but the rally fell short.

Meade led 36-26 at the break before South River outscored them, 15-9, in the third quarter. Regale Goings had a game-high 21 points for the Mustangs (12-1).

Girls basketball

No. 15 C. Milton Wright 60, John Carroll 58: Emma Hahner scored a game-high 28 points to power the host Mustangs (12-2) past the Patriots (5-12).

John Carroll, led by Ashley Hunter and Freshman Savannah Simmons with 19 points each, took a four-point lead in the fourth quarter.

Notre Dame Prep 52, Maryvale 34: Marissa Vernado scored 23 points to lead the Blazers (7-7) past the host Lions (5-12).

NDP led 22-12 at the break.

Wrestling

Catonsville 37, Hereford 30: Catonsville's Andrew Southwell scored a 6-4 decision over Hereford's Russell Carter to secure a victory in a battle of unbeaten dual meet squads in league play.

The host Comets (11-0) built a 34-14 lead on pins by Alejandro Mendez (126), Trey Glover (182) and Kojo Danquah (195), but Hereford (11-1) rallied to 34-30 on pins from Kahlil Rich (106), Jimmy Cavin (113) and Colin McNicholas (120), setting up the final match that Southwell (20-5) won at 126 pounds.

"I was just thinking don't get turned, wrestle smart, fight the whole match and never give up," Southwell said.
