Baltimore high school sports portal (Jan. 25): Top-ranked Roland Park cruises to 19th girls basketball victory of season

Girls basketball

No. 1 Roland Park 55, Archbishop Spalding 32: Mir McLean had 21 points to lead the Reds (19-1, 9-0 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) past the Cavaliers (7-9, 1-8). Roland Park has won nine straight.

No. 12 Chesapeake-AA 60, Glen Burnie 25: Ashley Chew had 10 points and five assists and Haley Downing had 13 points and four steals to lead the Cougars. Morgan Gray added seven points and 12 rebounds, Corinne Castle had eight points and six rebounds, Abby Mollick scored nine points and Savannah Mulvey had eight points for Chesapeake (11-4). Jordan Fangman scored seven points to lead Glen Burnie (0-13).

No. 8 Oakland Mills 55, Reservoir 47: In a battle for first place, Oakland Mills (9-1, 13-1) showed just how much it's grown in recent weeks.

Aislynn Riggs registered a triple-double (11 points, 13 rebounds and 10 blocks), while Jazmine Washington (19 points) and Kiyah King (14 points) joined her in double figures offensively, to help the Scorpions pull away down the stretch over the Gators.

St. Mary's 45, St. Timothy's 44, OT: Whitney Albert, who finished with 17 points and seven rebounds, made the -winning free throw with 3.1 seconds left in the extra period to give the Saints (12-7, 5-4 IAAM B Conference) a second-straight overtime victory.

Karry Kelliher added 11 points and nine rebounds, Ashley Roy registered 11 points and Maggie Aumiller netted six points, seven rebounds and three assists for St. Mary's. St. Tim's fell to 3-8, 2-6.

Maryvale 54, Gerstell 24: Emily Fenwick had nine points and Kylie Redman had seven points, but the Falcons (3-17, 1-8 IAAM B Conference) fell to the Lions (11-7, 5-4).

Northeast 60, North County 58: Alicia Ennals had 23 points and 10 rebounds while Megan Youngbar had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead North County. Na'vaye Willis had nine points and seven assists and Aireona Holland had 12 rebounds and two steals to go with six points for the Knights (5-9).

Boys basketball

No. 1 Boys' Latin 64, Mount Carmel 50: Cameron Spencer scored a game-high 30 points to lead the host Lakers (22-3, 8-0 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference Black Division) past the Cougars (7-15, 3-9).

No. 9 McDonogh 50, John Carroll 43: Dave Brown scored a game-high 20 points and the host Eagles (14-6, 8-4 MIAA A Conference Black Division) used a second-half rally to carry them over the Patriots (3-18, 1-10). McDonogh trailed 20-12 at the half.

No. 13 Edmondson 78, Green Street 70: The host Red Storm (16-2) switched defenses in the second half to take control over the Chargers (9-3). Keith Bolden had 22 points for Edmondson, which beat Edgewood, 75-51, Thursday.

Loyola Blakefield 49, No. 15 Glenelg Country 43: Mitch Fischer made four 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 24 points to lead the host Dons (14-10, 8-5 MIAA A Conference Red Division) past the Dragons (12-8, 6-6).

St. Paul's 47, Severn 45: Ziggy Reid had 17 points and Troy Barthelme had 13 points and the visiting Crusaders (13-7, 8-2 MIAA B Conference) beat the Admirals (8-8, 4-3).

Aberdeen 65, Harford Tech 60: Playing with a little added incentive, the Eagles (4-6) prevailed in a UCBAC Chesapeake Division battle. Aberdeen senior Jermere Bush-Williams hit two free throws to close the scoring and finished with 17 points. Jaquane Hayes led the Eagles with 19 points.

Severna Park 43, Northeast 34: Ron Schlipp (182), Ty Broadway (195), Conor Bowes (220) and William Toepper (285) recorded pins in the Falcons' victory Thursday evening. Michael Hamlett won by major decision at 160 pounds for Severna Park. Tyler Brown (106), Colin Cook (113), Owen Schmidt (126) and Thomas Gargano (152) all had pins for the Eagles. Billy Katzenberger won by major decision at 138 pounds for Northeast.
