Roundup: No. 6 Lake Clifton boys edge Poly in last :05

Gary Jefferson (13 points) made the game-winning jumper with five seconds left to lift No. 6 Lake Clifton over visiting Poly, 43-42, in boys basketball Tuesday.

The Engineers (6-6) missed their attempted buzzer-beater. The Lakers improved to 10-2.

No. 3 Patterson 74, Dunbar 57: The host Clippers (10-2) switched to a full-court press in the second half to turn the game around.

Dereck Oliver had a game-high 26 points for Patterson. The Poets fell to 5-6.

Westminster 51, Patterson Mill 48, OT: Jacob McIntosh had eight blocks and Chris Parker had 20 points to lead the host Owls (6-6) past the Huskies (4-7).

Football

Meade football coach Richard Holzer was named winner on Tuesday of the Semper Fi Coach Award.

In its third year, the award is given by the U.S. Marine Corps and Glazier Football Clinics to high school football coaches "who display faithfulness to the mission of their team and exemplify the Marine standard of excellence in developing leaders," according to a news release.

An awards ceremony will take place Feb.7 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.
