No. 8 Forest Park boys beat No. 7 City, 71-53

No. 8 Forest Park (10-1) got off to a slow start, falling behind early before taking the lead for good in the second quarter and going on to beat No. 7 City, 71-53, on Thursday.

"When you can get a Lake Clifton and a City and a Digital win in the same season, I think that's a big statement," coach Greate White said. "We did a heck of a job last year. ... Now these kids smell it, and they understand it. You don't need one player to dominate the ball. We can pass the ball around and make things happen."

The Knights (9-2) led 14-10 after the first quarter before host Forest Park took a 35-23 lead at the half. A rally by City in the fourth quarter was thwarted by timely rebounds and put-backs from Anton Waters, who finished with eight points and 20rebounds. Rysheed Corbin and DeAnthony McCormick each finished with 17 points for the Foresters.

No. 11 Lake Clifton 71, Friendship Academy of Science and Technology 46: The visiting Cheetahs tried to use a zone defense to slow the Clippers (12-2), but too many turnovers led to a fast-break transition game. Aaron Parks finished with a game-high 29 points for Lake Clifton, which opened with a 13-6 run and led 29-15 at halftime.

Ben Franklin-Masonville 71, Carver 53: Daquan Cook had a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds to power the host Bayhawks (10-4) past the Bears. Leon Fleming added 16 for Franklin, which pulled away late in the second half.

St. Frances 63, No. 8 Joppatowne 50: Host St. Frances won every quarter but the last as the Panthers upset Joppatowne (11-3). The Mariners' Shakara Head led all scorers with 17 points. Wake Forest-bound Tyshell King scored 15points for the Panthers.

No. 6 Owings Mills wins two: The host Eagles (19-1) beat No. 12 Sparrows Point, 60-9, and Eleanor Roosevelt (Prince George's), 59-13 in a double dual. Owings Mills lost three of 14 weight classes in each match. Coach Guy Pritzker has 475 career wins. Five Eagles had pins in both matches: Jake Rendelman (106); Zach Shapiro (132), Taran Carr (160), Tyques Shade (195) and Russell Barnes (220).
