Mervo took away the passing game from host Douglass and relied on its running game to upset the Ducks, 14-6, in football Friday.
The Mustangs improved to 2-2 and 1-1 in Baltimore City Division I; Douglass fell to 3-1 and 2-1.
"We did a great job of taking away the deep-ball game of Douglass," Mervo coach Patrick Nixon said. "Running the football is what we do. But I have to credit our offensive line for blocking and pass protection."
Nixon singled out right tackle Tavon Terry for his work on the offensive line.
Mervo scored in the second quarter when Rykim Lemon had a 5-yard touchdown run and Armarni Addison kicked the point after touchdown. The Mustangs' second score came in the third quarter when Khalil Newton caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Carlos Davis and Addison added the extra point.
The Ducks were scoreless until the fourth quarter.
No. 2 Archbishop Spalding 49, Avalon 0: The host Cavaliers (3-1) had two interception returns for touchdowns by DaeSean Winston and De'Sean Spencer, and rolled past the Black Knights.
Julius Chestnut finished with 13 carries for 99 yards and three touchdowns.
No. 10 Broadneck 21, North County 0: Shane Davis threw a touchdown pass and rushed for a touchdown and the Bruins (3-1) shut out the host Knights (0-4).
Davis went 14-for-31 for 154 yards and had seven carries for minus-17 yards. Broadneck's defense limited North County to 18:35 of possession and 211 yards of total offense.
No. 15 Bel Air 41, Fallston 20: Daniel Webber scored two touchdowns to help the Bobcats (4-0, 1-0) past host Fallston (2-2, 0-1) in the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference Chesapeake Division opener for both teams.
The Bobcats also got a pair of touchdown runs from freshman Brandon Godfrey in the second half.

Loyola Blakefield 40, Archbishop Curley 0: The host Dons rolled to a 4-0 record and the Friars fell to 2-2.
Loyola will be tested by No. 2 Archbishop Spalding on Friday and by No. 1 McDonogh on Oct. 7.
Towson 17, Lansdowne 14: Senior Tyrell Cook scored two touchdowns and Leighton Bechtel kicked a 24-yard field goal to lead the Generals (1-2) over the host Vikings (0-3).
After catching a 40-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, Cook returned a fumbled lateral 83 yards for a touchdown on the last play of the first half.

Wilde Lake 27, Atholton 3: Stanley Kirkland (22 passes for 139 yards) started the scoring with a 59-yard touchdown run and the Wildecats (2-2) beat the visiting Raiders (2-2).
Glen Burnie 35, Chesapeake-AA 11: Chimal Jones had three carries for 89 yards and two touchdowns for the host Gophers (2-2), and Antwon Bailey and Joe Jennings each returned an interception for a touchdown to beat the Cougars (1-3).

Dulaney 40, Kenwood 14: The Lions (2-1) had too much speed and big-play capability, and it didn't take long for that decisive edge to show over the host Bluebirds (1-3) in Essex.
Dulaney senior quarterback Tyler Woodard completed nine of 16 passes for 219 yards and five touchdowns.
Senior wide receiver Tyreek Henderson caught three passes for 93 yards and a touchdown and teammate Nolan Matsko, a junior wideout, had two touchdown receptions.
