Varsity roundup (Sept. 8): DeMatha football shuts out No. 5 Franklin

Tyler Lenhart completed two touchdown passes and Sieh Bangura rushed for two touchdowns as DeMatha blanked No. 5 Franklin, 36-0, on Friday night.

The host Stags improved to 2-1 while the Indians slipped to 1-1.

DeMatha, ranked No. 9 in USA Today's Super 25 poll, has not allowed a point over the past eight quarters. The Stags next host No. 3 McDonogh, Friday at 7 p.m.

St. Mary's 5, St. Mary's-Ryken 0: Jack McCarthy and Nate Gautheir each had two goals and two assists to lead the host Admirals (3-2) past the Knights (0-3).

Trevor Shanahan made two saves in the shutout for St. Mary's.

No. 7 C. Milton Wright 1, Perry Hall 0: Nick Dunstan-Maiese scored the winner to lift the Mustangs (1-0) over the Gators (1-1) at the Bel Air tournament.

Field hockey

No. 4 McDonogh 6, Bryn Mawr 1: Emma Schettig scored twice and Katelyn Whittle had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Eagles (2-0, 2-0 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) past the Mawrtians (1-1, 0-1).

Bryn Mawr was held scoreless until the final 11/2 minutes of play.

No. 14 Garrison Forest 4, Bel Air 1: Riley Patro had two goals and an assist to lead the host Grizzlies (2-2) past the Bobcats (1-2). Garrison led 4-0 in the first half.

Girls volleyball

Catonsville d. Lansdowne, 3-0: Kelly O'Keefe had six aces and 22 assists to lead the host Comets (2-0) past the Vikings (0-2). Catonsville won, 25-12, 25-20, 25-17.
