Gross wins the award for the second straight season by doing what he's done every season — just about everything.

The senior is headed to Rice next year and could become a decathlete thanks to the unusual mix of speed and power that he brings to the track. He can run, jump and do just about anything else.

At the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association championship meet, Gross won the 110 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. He also won the long jump (with a meet record of 24 feet, 2.75 inches) and the triple jump. He can perform in other field events and should give Rice a lift.

"I'm going to try and take everything I learned at McDonogh and use it at Rice," Gross said.
