Field hockey
South Carroll 3, Winters Mill 0: The Cavaliers picked up goals from Sophia DuPont, Alayna Enoff and Megan Maynard and shut out the Falcons in their Class 1A West Region I semifinal. Olivia Carter, Audrey Lillycrop and Caroline Laur had assists. Lily Sheaffer made eight saves to earn the shutout. The Cavaliers face top-seeded Liberty in the regional final on Wednesday.
Manchester Valley 5, Poolesville 0: Amanda Herrold scored twice for the Mavericks as they won their 2A West Region II semifinal. Emma Gleespen, Ashley Mountcastle and Charleigh Seifert also scored with Allie Largent providing an assist.
Century 6, Damascus 1: Kendra Burns and Julia Bornyek scored twice, while Abigail Kristian and Aubrey Geist added goals in the regional semifinal win. The Knights face Manchester Valley in the 2A West Region II finals Wednesday. Burns also had two assists Monday and Geist had one. Charlotte Geiger, Natalie Opatovsky and Madison Leach also scored.
River Hill 9, Atholton 0: Maddie Vasilios scored four goals and assisted on another as the Hawks won their 3A East Region II semifinal. Puja Nanjappa had a goal and two assists, Maya Chan had a goal and assist, and Alma Hagstrom and Chelsea Adamson added goals. Jocelyn Baker had an assist. Adara Baldini made 10 saves for Atholton.
Crofton 6, Arundel 0: Six Cardinals scored goals in the regional semifinal win. Kylie Corcoran had a goal and two assists, while Jackie Kerner and Olivia Feeley each had a goal and assist. Lindsey Roberts, Sophia Galarza and Willow Siebold also scored goals. Emily Najarian had an assist.
Northern-Calvert 1, Chesapeake 0: The Cougars lost in the 3A South Region I semifinal. After a scoreless first half, the Patriots picked up the only goal in the second. Shelby Brown made five saves for the Cougars and Kelcie Gannon had a defensive save. The Patriots face Crofton in Wednesday’s regional final.
Glenelg 11, Oakland Mills 0: Brinkley Eyre, Theresa Stiller and Kate Kim each scored twice for the Gladiators in their 2A South Region II win. Kaitlyn Talley, Grace Brukiewa, Sarah Walker, Emily Altshuler and Ashley Kim also scored. Walker led the team with three assists.
Hammond 2, Wilde Lake 0: The Golden Bears won their 2A South Region II semifinal as Hannah Haber and Mayuri Chakkara each scored. Haber scored off a penalty stroke while Chakkara scored off a penalty corner. Hammond travels to top seed Glenelg on Wednesday.
Patterson Mill 3, Harford Tech 1: The Huskies won their 1A North Region II semifinal despite allowing the Cobras to get on the scoreboard first off a Sadie Atkinson goal assisted by Paige Stanley four minutes in. Patterson Mill tied the game a minute later and took the lead at the end of the first quarter. It added a goal in the third quarter.
