High school varsity basketball playoff roundup (March 3)

Here’s a roundup of high school playoff action on Thursday, March 3.

Girls basketball

Class 3A

Stephen Decatur 49, Crofton 46: Vanessa Carmichael scored 10 of her team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals were unable to claw back in the Class 3A South Region II final against the Seahawks. Cora Shafer was limited to 13 points after posting 27 two nights ago for Crofton, which won a pair of playoff games in its first year of varsity existence.


C. Milton Wright 44, Towson 34: The Mustangs (15-6) captured the 3A North Region II title with the 10-point win over the host Generals (11-7). Maddie Nimmo led the winners with 28 points and Miranda Turner added 11. The Mustangs were region champs in 2018.

Class 2A

Sparrows Point 57, Eastern Tech 24: The Pointers posted a big win in the Class 2A North Region II final. Myah Hazelton led Sparrows Point with a double-double. The sophomore totaled 27 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Molly Shelley added 15 points and nine rebounds.

Class 1A

Havre de Grace 45, Bo Manor 40: For the first time since 1990, the Warriors (15-6) are region champions after beating the visiting Eagles (15-8) in the 1A East Region I final. Kaedence Gipson scored 14 points and Natiah Tuner added nine.
