The University of the District of Columbia has named longtime Baltimore-area coach DeWayne Burroughs as its women's basketball coach. Burroughs, an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at UDC since 2011, replaces Lester Butler Jr., who has become coach at his alma mater, Virginia Union. Burroughs was head coach at Woodlawn, St. Paul School for Girls and Northwestern, compiling a high school record of 143-40. At Woodlawn, he won four Baltimore County Championships and three regional championships, and reached the state semifinals once and state finals twice. His previous college jobs were at Chesapeake College and Bowie State. Burroughs also served as an Amateur Athletic Union coach for Maryland Freeplay from 1991 to 2006.
