VA should hand out pink slips, not bonuses

The $64,000 in bonus money paid to a non-performing agency such as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs office in Baltimore is, in one word, sickening ("VA paid bonuses at Md. office," Sept. 19).

The story about rewards for "individual performance" is just baloney. When veterans are forced to wait 500 or more days for action on a claim, this is evidence of ineffective management and poor individual performance right down the line.

If it wasn't a government job, these non-performers would get what they deserve — a pink slip.
