Dunbar officially back on top of Baltimore Sun boys basketball poll

Dunbar coach Cyrus Jones wasn't sure when the Poets last stood atop our Top 15 poll, guessing the 1996-97 season. Decades ago, the two-time defending Class 1A state champs were regular kings in the area with a resume that includes 20 Maryland Scholastic Association championships (the first in the 1956-57 season), 13 state titles and either three or four national championships in the 1980s and 90s.

Because Dunbar got the job done against Patterson, it's an easy call to put them at No. 1. But there are a number of quality teams wanting to make it a short stay for the Poets.

More difficult than moving up Dunbar to No. 1 this week was which team should be No. 2, 3 and 4.  Milford Mill,

, gets the bump to No. 2 and will get a chance to face Dunbar on Jan. 26 at the Basketball Academy at Coppin.
