RUNNER OF THE YEAR
Jared Welsh
Francis Scott KeyWelsh was the leader of the pack for the Eagles, who dominated Carroll County to win county, regional and Class 2A state titles. The senior won his second straight individual county championship, heading a quintet of Key runners who captured the first five places.
He also won titles in the Mountain Run Invitational, Monocacy Valley Athletic League Piedmont Conference and Class 2A West regional before taking third at the Class 2A state meet, less than a second behind teammate Arthur Leathers. What's more, he was the team's emotional leader. Determined to improve on Key's third-place finish at the states in 2005, he spent his summer calling teammates to arrange daily runs.

Fifteen points. In cross country circles, it's considered the holy grail - a perfect team score. No team in Carroll had ever pulled off such a feat at the county meet until Francis Scott Key did it in October, capturing the race's first five places to run away with the school's first county championship.
Led by Replogle and Walsh, however, the Eagles didn't stop there, going on to win regional and Class 2A state titles. After taking third in the state last fall, the Eagles dedicated themselves to improving during the offseason, and the extra work paid off.
