The senior quarterback orchestrated a game-winning 89-yard drive in the final two minutes of the fourth quarter to help lead the Poets to their third straight Class 1A state title with a 20-19 win over Fort Hill on Saturday.
Perry scrambled for 13 yards on a fourth-and-seven to keep the drive alive early and then completed four passes to four receivers - hitting Sean Farr from 14yards out for a touchdown that brought the Poets within 19-18 with two seconds left. Standout running back Tavon Austin converted the two-point run to give the Poets the win. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Perry completed seven passes for 116 yards and the touchdown. He finished the year with 1,771 passing yards and 19touchdowns.
