St. Frances linebacker Rahshaun Smith transferring to IMG Academy

St. Frances junior Rahshaun Smith said Friday he plans to transfer to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., for his senior year.

Smith, a 6-foot-2, 210-pound All-Metro first-team linebacker who previously played at Calvert Hall, made the announcement on Twitter.

"I had a great experience and was blessed to attend St. Frances Academy and I thank God for that opportunity," he wrote. "I was fortunate to be coached by great men who not only taught me the game, but taught me how to be a better young man."

The top-rated junior prospect in Maryland, Smith transitioned from defensive end to middle linebacker last season and had 111 tackles and two interceptions. He has offers from more than 40 top FBS programs.

Smith said he was grateful to be coached by Tommy Polley, a former linebacker who played five NFL seasons, including one with the Ravens.

IMG Academy is a private athletic training institute that prepares student-athletes to complete at top universities and professionally.
