Roland Park's squash team won the second national squash championship in school history Sunday, taking the Division II title at the U.S. High School National Championships in Harford, Conn. The Reds finish with a No. 17 national ranking.
The school provided the following synopsis of the event:
"In the first round of the tournament, RPCS had a solid 6-1 victory over the Greenwich Academy (CT) junior varsity team with wins from Casey Wong (1), Julia Potter (2), Julia Garber (3), Katie Clements (4), Caroline East (5) and Allie Graul (7). Next, the Reds faced the Potomac School (VA) for the 4th time this season, with improved results this time. Winning matches were Wong, Potter, Clements, East, Graul and Meredith Kuser (6) for another 6-1 victory. In the semi-final match, RPCS prevailed over William Penn Charter School (PA) 5-2 with wins from Wong, Clements, East, Kuser and Graul.
In the Championship Finals, RPCS competed against the Hopkins School from New Haven, CT, who were making their nationals debut. The schools were tied after the first four matches were played with the Reds taking the wins at #2 and #5 and Hopkins winning at #7 and #3.
In the third round of matches, RPCS took a 3-2 lead with a quick victory at #1 Wong. At #6, Meredith Kuser came back from being down 2-7 in the first game to win in overtime 13-11. With tremendous retrievals and consistency finding the back corners with her drives, Kuser rolled through the next two games securing the championship for Roland Park Country School with a 3-0 victory."
