McDonogh's girls basketball team closed out its season Sunday by winning the Bishop Walsh Girls Invitational Tournament in Cumberland for the second straight year.
The No. 1 Eagles (28-3) defeated Bishop McNamara, 48-38, in the title game and point guard Danielle Edwards was named Most Valuable Player.
Edwards, who also won awards for most steals, most assists and best defense in the tournament, led the Eagles with 13 points while Dajah Logan added 12. Logan, the MVP of last year's tournament, and Kolbi Green were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
No. 11 Seton Keough (16-11) won the consolation bracket final, 42-32, over St. Maria Goretti as a fitting sendoff for coach Jody Powell, whose family is moving to Pittsburgh after her husband, former Terps assistant footbal coach Andre Powell, accepted a position on the staff at Pitt.
For the Eagles, who won their second straight Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference title this spring, the tournament started with a 59-29 win over Goretti Friday night. They defeated Good Counsel, 60-52, in Saturday night's semifinal.
The Eagles led by as many as 17 at one point, but coach Brad Rees said both teams were extremely tired and gutted their way through the finale.
"This has become the event we look forward to being invited to and to win it is just extra special," Rees said. "We last played February 15. We had about an hour shoot around with all of the weather and everything, so we really came in without practicing or playing for almost three weeks, so it's an interesting event. It's hard to prepare for, but as they have over their four-year careers, the seniors just find a way to win. I'm proud of them and proud of their accomplishments."
The Eagles will graduate three seniors -- Edwards, Logan and forward Jameira Johnson.
