Century junior Nick Neral placed second in the high school boys pole vault championship on Saturday at the Penn Relays.
Neral, an All-Metro first-team pick after the indoor track season, vaulted 14 feet, 9 inches. Six vaulters -- including the winner, Brandon Stacy of Caravel (Del.) -- matched that mark. Tie breakers decided final places.
During the indoor season, Neral won the Carroll County, region and Class 2A state titles in the pole vault. His best vault indoors was 15 feet, 4 inches.
The Penn Relays meet, first held on April 21, 1895, is the longest uninterrupted collegiate track meet in the country. It annually includes athletes from high schools, colleges and track clubs from all over the country and abroad.
