Mount St. Joseph announced the appointment Wednesday of Kraig Loovis to athletic director. He has served as interim athletic director since July.
“In his time as interim athletic director, Kraig has taken this responsibility seriously, and he has earned the respect and trust of all of the coaches in his department,” Mount St. Joseph principal Barry Fitzpatrick said in a news release. “He has confirmed what I already felt, namely, that he is the right man for the job at this time, given his knowledge of the department, his attention to detail and to the people involved, and his love of the Mount and our students. It is my privilege to appoint him our athletic director.”
Loovis graduated from Mount St. Joseph in 1992 and is in his 14th year on the faculty at the school. He previously worked as a physical education teacher and the chair of the physical education department.
"After serving as the interim athletic director for the past few months, I am pleased to formally accept the position of athletic director," Loovis said in the news release. "I have learned a great deal and am eager to use this knowledge in generating a positive athletic experience for students, visitors and friends here at Mount St. Joseph."
Loovis, a 1996 University of Maryland graduate, lives in Arnold with his wife, Anne, and two sons.
